Therapeutic actions: Claritin is a long-acting antihistamine preparation. Claritin belongs to H1-histamine receptors blockers. Histamine is an allergy mediator that releases from the mast cells when some allergens(foreign substances) enters the blood circulation. Being released, Histamine binds to specific H1 receptors triggering some changes in physiological functions(dilating the capillaries, decreasing blood pressure, increasing the permeability of capillaries' walls resulting in edema and hemoconcentration). These histamine's effects manifest with allergy symptoms(nasal congestion ,sneezing, inflammation of the skin, eyes, nose, watery and itchy eyes, a runny nose). Blocking histamine receptors leads to eliminating the allergy symptoms. Anti allergic effect of Claritin begins in 30 minutes and lasts 24 hours. Claritin does not induce addiction. Claritin(loratadine) does not cross the blood-brain barrier, thus, doesn't affect CNS(central nervous system). Claritin does not possess sedative and anticholinergic properties. Claritin also does not exponentiate alcohol effects.
