Drug name: Otizol
Therapeutic actions: Otizol is a combination of 3 active ingredients: Phenazon, benzocaine and phenylephrine that exert analgesic, anti-inflammatory and vasoconstrictive action. Phenazon possesses anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties. Benzocaine is a local anaesthenic thar works by blocking the occurrence and transmission of the nerve impulses. Phenylephrine is a synthetic adrenomimetic that works by stimulating a-adrenoreceptors causing narrowing of the blood vessels.
Indications: Otizol is approved to treat:
- Acute otitis media
- Otitis associated with barotrauma
- Post-traumatic otitis
Contraindications and cautions: Otizol is contraindicated in:
- known hypersensitivity or allergy to any of the medication ingredients
- perforation of the eardrum related to trauma or infection
- pregnancy and breastfeeding
