Active Ingredients:
- Albendazole
Therapeutic actions: Albendazole belongs to a group of substances called benzimidazoles some of them as well as Albendazole manifest anthelmintic and antiprotozoal activity. Albendazole also exhibits vermicidal, larvacidal and ovacidal by inhibiting tubulin polymerization thus causing damage to helminth metabolism. That results in energy depletion which causes immobilisation and death of susceptible helminths.
Indications: Zentel is indicated in treatment of the following intestinal parasites or their multiple infestations:
- Ascaris lumbricoides
- Trichuris trichiura
- Enterobius vermicularis
- Ancylostoma duodenale
- Necator americanus
- Taenia spp.
- Strongyloides stercoralis.
- Giardia
Contraindications and cautions: Be careful and consult your doctor when using Zentel if:
- you have liver dysfunction or any abnormal liver activity.
- you have hypersensitivity to any of the components of the preparation or to other antihelmintic drugs.
- You are pregnant, plan to become pregnant or are breastfeeding. FDA pregnancy category C.
Adverse effects: There are possible side-effects associated with this medicine that can affect individuals in different ways. If a side effect is stated here, that does not necessarily mean the fact that all people using Albendazole will experience it or any other. The side-effects include:
- Possible allergic reaction: swelling, hives, difficulty breathing, itching
- Weakness, easy bruising or bleeding
- Fever, headaches, blistering, skin rash
- Flu-like symptoms
Other passing side-effects might include
- Stomach pain
- Upset stomach, nausea, vomiting
- Dizziness, headaches
- Temporary alopecia

- cimetidine
- dexamethasone
- praziquantel
- theophylline
