Therapeutic actions: Norbactin contains the active ingredients Norfloxacin. Norfloxacin is a broad spectrum antibiotic. Like other fluoroquinolones, Norbactim works by inhibiting the activity of enzymes called DNA-gyrase. This enzyme is essential for the DNA(genetic material_ replication. Inhibiting DNA reproduction makes bacteria inviable . Norfloxacin contains Flour atom that expands the spectrum of the antibacterial activity against Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacteria. Norfloxacin possesses the express activity against Pseudomonas aeruginosa.
Indications: Norbactin is indicated to treat infections caused by susceptible to norfloxacin bacteria:
- Urinary tract infections(pyelonephitis, cystitis, urethritis) caused by E.coli, Proteus spp., Morganella morganii, Klebsiella spp., Enterobacter spp., Citrobacter spp., Pseudomonas spp
- Gonococcic infections
- Gastrointestinal infections caused by spp., Shigella spp., Yersinia enterocolitica, Campylobacter jejuni, E.coli, Vibrio cholerae). Norfloxacin is highly effective against acute gastroenteritis.
Contraindications and cautions: Norbactin should not be used in the following conditions:
- reactions to norfloxacin or fluoroquinolones
- Pregnancy
- Breastfeeding
- Severe liver failure
Necessarily tell your health care provider if you experience any of the following conditions:
- Epilepsy or history of seizures
- History of disorders of the Central Nervous System (CNS)
- G6PD deficiency
Warning! Avoid direct sun rays while taking Norfloxacin. Do not drive or operate any machinery while taking Norbactin
Stop taking norfloxacin if you noticed first signs of the joints inflammation.
Adverse effects: There are possible side-effects associated with this that can affect individuals in different ways. If a side effect is stated here, that does not necessarily mean the fact that all people using Norbactin will experience it or any other.
Norbactin is usually well tolerated. In rare cases some people may develop dyspesia, headache, CNS disorders(insomnia) and allergic reactions(skin rash and itching)

- The combination of Non-steriodal (NSAID's) and Theophylline with Norfloxacin may increase the risk of seizures.
- Blood thinners(anticoagulants) may increase the therapeutic effect of Norfloxacin
- Sucralfate reduces the absorption of Norfloxacin
- Cyclosporin may increase the risk of kidney damage while using Norbactin.
