Active Ingredients:

  • Erythromycin

Therapeutic actions: Erythromycin belongs to a group of antibiotics called macrolides. Erythromycin works by disturbing the production of proteins by the bacteria. Due to the binding to the 50S subunits of the ribosome, Erythromycin inhibits the activity of the enzyme called peptidetranslocase. As a result, bacteria become incapable to form proteins. This is eventually fatal for the bacteria. Erythromycin acts on gram-positive bacteria including Streptococcus pneumoniae, Streptococcus spp., Bacillus anthracis, Clostridium spp., Corinebacterium diphtheriae. Most of the gram-negative bacteria are not susceptible to Erythromycin.

Indications: Erythromycin is used to treat infectious diseases caused by susceptible to it bacteria, including:

  • Diphtheria
  • Pertussis
  • Trachoma
  • Brucellosis
  • Legionnaires disease
  • Tonsillitis
  • Scarlet fever
  • Otitis
  • Sinusitis
  • Cholecystitis
  • Pneumonia
  • Gonorrhea
  • St.Job's disease

Contraindications and cautions: You should not use Erythromycin in the following conditions:

  • Hypersensitivity or allergy to Erythromycin or other macrolides
  • Jaundice
  • Severe liver diseases
  • Stomach diseases
  • Colitis
  • Pregnancy
  • Lactation

Erythromycin should not be used in conjunction with milk products.

Adverse effects: There are possible side-effects associated with this medicine that can affect individuals in different ways.
