Cedax
Drug name: Cedax
Active Ingredients:
- Ceftibuten
Therapeutic actions: Cedax contains the active ingredients Ceftibuten that is a third-generation cephalosporin antibiotic. Ceftibuten exerts bactericidal action by inhibiting the synthesis of peptidoglycane. Peptidoglycane is essential protein in bacterial cell wall. Cedax blocks enzymes trans-and carboxypeptidase that are responsible for peptidoglycane production. By inhibiting peptidoglycane synthesis, Ceftibuten causes holes to appear in bacterial cell walls resulting in lysis of the bacteria.
Cedax is effective against Gram-negative aerobes: Haemophilus influenzae (including β-lactamase-producing strains) Moraxella catarrhalis (including β-lactamase-producing strains) and Gram-positive aerobes: Streptococcus (penicillin-susceptible strains only),Streptococcus pyogenes. Ceftibuten is also characterized by high bactericidal activity against E.coli, Klebsiella oxytoca, K.pneumoniae, Proteus mirabilis, P. vulgaris, Providencia, spp., Shigella spp.
Indications: Cedax is used to treat infectious diseases caused by sensitive to ceftibuten microorganisms:
- Acute Bacterial Exacerbations of Chronic Bronchitis (Haemophilus influenzae, Moraxella catarrhalis, Streptococcus pneumonia (penicillin-susceptible strains only).
- Acute Bacterial Otitis Media
- Tonsillitis and Pharyngitis caused Streptococcus pyogenes
