Active Ingredients:
- Benzathine benzylpenicillin
Therapeutic actions: Bactericidal antibiotic Extencillin(Benzathine benzylpenicillin) is effective against streptococci A and Treponema palidum that causes St. Job's disease(siphilis) and zymotic papilloma. Extencillin works by inhibiting transpeptidase, thus, disturbing the synthesis of peptidoglycane that is essential component in bacterial cell walls. This causes holes to occur in the bacterial cell walls resulting in lysis of the microorganisms.
Indications: Extencillin is used to treat infectious diseases caused by susceptible to Benzathine benzylpenicillin microorganisms:
- Diseases caused by Treponema strains(St. Job's disease(siphilis), zymotic papilloma, spotted disease(carate).
- Prophylaxis the exacerbation of rheumatism, erysipelas(sacred fire).
In combination with fast-release penicillins in: acute tonsillitis, scarlet fever(scarlatina), infectious wounds, prophylaxis of the postsurgical complications.
Contraindications and cautions: Extencillin is contraindicated in the following conditions:
- Increased sensitivity to Benzathine benzylpenicillin, other penicillins, cephalosporins, carbopenems.
- Bronchial asthma
- Hay fever
This medication should be used only intramuscularly.
Adverse effects: There are possible side-effects associated with this that can affect individuals in different ways. If a side effect is stated here, that does not necessarily mean the fact that all people using Extencillin will experience it or any other.
The most common side effects may include: headache, anemia, trombocytopenia, leukopenia, coagula
Local reactions: pain, infiltrates, abscess, fistula, peripheral neuritis.

Aminoglycosides and cephalosporins enhances the effect of Benzathine benzylpenicillin NSAID's and glucocorticoids change the elimination of the medicine.
