Therapeutic actions: Norfloxacin is a broad spectrum antibacterial medication. Like other fluoroquinolones, norfloxaic blocks enzymes called DNA-gyrase. This enzyme is responsible for the DNA replication. Inhibiting DNA reproduction makes bacteria nonviable. Norfloxacin contains Flour atom that expands the spectrum of antibacterial activity against Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacteria. Norfloxacin possesses the express activity against Pseudomonas aeruginosa.
Indications: Gyrablock is used to treat infections caused by sensitive to Norfloxacin bacteria that may include:
- Urinary tract infections(Pyelonephritis, cystitis, urethritis)
- Gonococcic infections(urethritis and cervicitis)
- Gastrointestinal infections(Salmonella spp., Shigella spp., Yersinia enterocolitica, Campylobacter jejuni, E.coli, Vibrio cholerae). Norfloxacin is highly effective against acute gastroenteritis.
Contraindications and cautions: Gyrablock is contradicted in the following conditions:
- reactions to norfloxacin or fluoroquinolones
- Severe liver failure
- Pregnancy
- Breastfeeding
Talk with your health care provider prior to taking Norfloxacin if you experience:
- Epilepsy or history of seizures
- History of disorders of the Central Nervous System (CNS)
- G6PD deficiency
- Severely kidney dysfunction
Warning!Avoid direct sun rays while taking Norfloxacin. Do not drive or operate any machinery if you take Nofloxacin
Stop taking Gyrablock if you noticed first signs of joints inflammation.
Adverse effects: There are possible side-effects associated with this that can affect individuals in different ways. If a side effect is stated here, that does not necessarily mean the fact that all people using Norfloxacin will experience it or any other.
Norfloxacin is usually well tolerated. In rare cases some people may experience dyspesia, headache, CNS disorders(insomnia) and allergic reactions(skin rash and itching)

- The combination of Non-steroidal (NSAID's) and Theophylline with Norfloxacin may increase the risk for seizures.
- Blood thinners may increase the therapeutic effect of Norfloxacin resulting in side effects occurrence.
- Sucralfate reduces the absorption of Norfloxacin
- Cyclosporin may increase the risk of kidney damage while using Norfloxacin.
