Lincomicin
Drug name: Lincomicin
Active Ingredients:
- Lincomycin
Therapeutic actions: Lincomycin is an antibiotic that is produced by Streptomyces lincolniensis and exerts bacteriostatic action. Licomycin belong to a class of called lincosamides. It works by binding with 50S ribosomes in the bacterial cell and through that inhibiting the protein synthesis that in turn leads to cell death. In increased doses can cause bactericidal effect.
Indications: The is indicated in treatment of bacterial infections caused by susceptible microorganisms. The following conditions may be treated with Lincomycin:
- Sepsis
- Chronic pneumonia
- Lung abscess
- Otitis
- Plevritis
- Skin and soft tissue infections
- Osteomyelitis
Contraindications and cautions: The drug should be used after a consultation with your health care provider in the following conditions:
- Hypersensitivity to the components
- Pregnancy or lactation period
- Severe renal or hepatic insufficiency
- Infants age
- Fungal skin, oral cavity and vaginal infestations
- Myasthenia
The preparation should be injected deep intramuscularly. It should not be used intravenously without prior dilution. The renal function should be monitored carefully during long-term treatment with the preparation.
Adverse effects: There are possible side-effects associated with this that can affect individuals in different ways. If a side effect is stated here, that does not necessarily mean the fact that all people using Lincomycin will experience it or any other. The side-effects include:
- Gastro-intestinal tract: nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, stomatitis, increased activity of renal transferases, transitional hyperbilirubinemia. In long-term treatment possible candidosis of the tract
- Hematopoietic system: reversible leukopenia, thromocytopenia, neutropenia
- reactions: skin rash , swelling, different anaphylactic reactions
