Oxacilin
Drug name: Oxacillin
Active Ingredients:

Therapeutic actions: Oxacillin is a bactericidal antibiotic from the group of half synthetic penicillin. Oxacillin is resistant to penicillinase action. Oxacillin works by blocking the synthesis of bacterial cell wall due to interfering with the production of peptidoglycane. This results in lysis of the bacterial cells. Oxacillin is effective against anaerobic and aerobic gram-positive bacterial. Oxacillin is not effective against the majority of gram-negative bacteria, viruses, fungi and protozoa.
Indications: Oxacillin is indicated in infections caused by gram-positive bacteria susceptible to Oxacillin(sepsis, phlegmon, cholecystitis, pyelitis, cystitis, osteomyelitis, postoperative wound infections, infectious burns, bacterial endicarditis, meningitis, sinusitis)
Contraindications and cautions: Oxacillim should not be used in hypersensitivity or allergy to oxacillin or other beta-lactam antibiotics.
Do not use Oxacillin in:
- Bronchial asthma
- Chronic kidney and liver falure
- Enterocolitis
- Pregnancy and breastfeeding
Adverse effects: There are possible side-effects associated with this medicine that can affect individuals in different ways. If a side effect is stated here, that does not necessarily mean the fact that all people using Oxacillin will experience it or any other.
- Skin allergic reactions(hives, rash)
- Dyspepsia(nausea, vomiting, diarrhea)
- Mouth and vaginal thrush
- Hepatotoxicity
- Thrombophlebitis

- Oxacillin increases the toxicity of hepatoxic drugs
- It is not reccomended to use Oxacillin with bacteriostatic antibiotics
- Calcium channels blockers increases oxacillin blood levels
- Antacids and laxative stimulants lower Oxacillin absorption
