Drug name: Roxid-150
Active Ingredients:
- Roxithromycin
Therapeutic actions: Roxid contains the active ingredient Roxithromycin that belongs to macrolide antibiotics. Roxithromycin binds to 50S subunits of the Palades' granules and interferes in peptidetranslocase activity resulting in reducing the growth of the bacteria. As a result microorganisms are not able to multiply and then die. In high dosages Roxithromycin possesses bactericidal action. Roxid is a broad spectrum antibiotic that is high effective against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, anaerobic microorganisms, mycobacteria, mycoplasms and spirochetes.
Indications: Roxithromycin is used to treat infections caused by susceptible to Roxithromycin bacteria:
- Upper respiratory tract infections(throat infections and sinusitis)
- Otitis media
- Diphteritis
- Lower respiratory tract infections (pneumonia, bronchitis)
- Skin and soft tissue infections(including acne)
- Acute gastroenteritis caused by Campylobacter jejuni
- Chronic gastritis and duodenal ulcer
- Infections caused by Mycoplasma, Chlamidya, Legionella
- Chronic prostatitis
- Prophylaxis of rheumatoid fever
Contraindications and cautions: You should not use Roxithromycin in the following conditions:
- or hypersensitivity to Roxithromycin or other macrolide antibiotics
- Pregnancy and breastfeeding
Roxithromycin should be used with caution in patient with liver failure and in elderly people. Avoid taking any Secale cornutum alkaloids while using Roxid.
Adverse effects: There are possible side-effects associated with this that can affect individuals in different ways. If a side effect is stated here, that does not necessarily mean the fact that all people using Roxithromycin will experience it or any other.
Side effects usually occurs in rare cases and ,as rule, do not require the medication withdrawal. Possible side effects may include digestive system disorders: nausea, vomiting, meteorism, diarrhea; skin reactions: skin rash and itching. Some patients reversible liver failure may occur.

- Do not use this medication in combination with Secale cornutum alkaloids(ergotamine, dehydroergotamine)
- Digoxine increases the absorption of the medication.
- Roxithromycin may increase the effect of varfarin, theophylline, cyclosporin, astemizole, disopyramide and terfenadine
- Roxithromycin and etambutol exerts synergism in combination against Mycobacterium avium.
