Active Ingredients:
- Gatifloxacin
Therapeutic actions: Gatifloxacin belongs to a group of fluoroquinolone antibiotics. Bactericidal action of gatifloxacin is explained by the blocking the bacterial enzyme DNA-gyrase which is used by the bacterial cell in replication, transcription and reparation of the bacterial DNA. Gatifloxacin also inhibits topoisomerase 4 which has a great role in dividing of the chromosomal DNA during bacterial cell multiplication. The antibacterial range of the drug includes resistant to penicillin, aminoglycosides, cephalosporins and polyresistant microorganisms.
Indications: The drug is indicated in treatment of infectious-inflammatory disease caused by susceptible microorganisms:
- Pneumonia
- Chronic bronchitis in the acute phase
- Pyelonephritis
- Severe urogenital infections
- Throat infections including acute sinusitis
- Skin and soft tissue infections
- Sexually transmitted diseases: urethritis, cervitis, proctitis.
Contraindications and cautions: Zarquin should not be used in the following conditions:
- Hypersensitivity to any components of the preparation
- Heart disorder – especially prolonged QT syndrome
- Hypokalemia
- Arrhythmia
- Kidney or liver disease
- Epilepsy or seizure related disorders.
- Age younger then 18 years old or over 60 years without specific consultations with your doctor
The drug belongs to FDA pregnancy category C meaning that it should not be used during pregnancy or lactation period without strong reasons or specific conditions of the mother.
During treatment be careful and avoid the following:
- Ultra-violet rays
- Conditions when you will need increased reaction
- Driving or operating complex machinery
Adverse effects: There are possible side-effects associated with this medicine that can affect individuals in different ways. If a side effect is stated here, that does not necessarily mean the fact that all people using Zarquin will experience it or any other. The side-effects include:
- Gastro-intestinal system: nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, anorexia, diarrhea, constipation, dyspepsia, meteorism, gastritis, glossitis, stomatitis, gingivitis, gastro-intestinal bleeding.
- CNS side-effects: headache, dizziness, migraines, insomnia and other sleep disorders, agitation, anxiety, nervousness, somnolence, paresthesia, tremor, seizures, depersonalization, depression, panic attacks, paranoia, agression, photophobia, ataxia, hyperestesia, vision impairment, photosensitivity, peripheral neuropathy.
- Cardiovascular system: tachycardia, bradycardia, arterial hypertension.
- Locomotor system: increased chance of tendon rupture, arthritis, ossalgia.
- Respiratory system: hyperventilation, bronchospasm
- Allergic reactions
- Other: chest pain, ear pain, thirst, skin dryness, fever, vaginitis, hypoglycemia, hematuria,

- Tricyclic antidepressants
- Serotonin inhibitors and agonists
- Heart disorder treatment
