Therapeutic actions:
Duloxetine is an antidepressant - serotonin and norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor. Duloxetine increases serotonergic and noradrenergic neurotransmission in the CNS.
Duloxetine has a central mechanism of the pain syndrome suppression, which is primarily manifested by higher threshold of pain sensitivity in the pain syndrome of neuropathic etiology.
Indications:
- Depression
- Painful form of diabetic neuropathy
Contraindications and cautions:
- Hypersensitivity
- Uncompensated angle-closure glaucoma
- Breastfeeding
- With caution: aggravation of a manic / hypomanic state, seizures, mydriasis, abnormal liver function or kidney disease, risk of suicidal attempts, pregnancy
Adverse effects: There are possible side-effects associated with this medicine that can affect individuals in different ways. If a side effect is stated here, that does not necessarily mean the fact that all people using Duloxetine will experience it or any other.
Often:
- dizziness (excluding vertigo)
- dry mouth, nausea, constipation
- sleep disturbance (insomnia or sleepiness), headache
Rare:
- diarrhea, vomiting, tremors, decreased appetite, weight loss
- weakness, sweating, flushing, blurred vision
- anorgasmia, decreased libido, delayed and abnormal ejaculation, erectile dysfunction
