Drug name: Diflucan

Active Ingredients:
fluconazole
Therapeutic actions: Binds to sterols in the fungal cell membrane, changing membrane permeability; fungicidal or fungistatic depending on concentration and organism.
Indications:
- Treatment of oropharyngeal, esophageal, and vaginal candidiasis
- Treatment of cryptococcal meningitis
- Treatment of systemic fungal infections
- Prophylaxis to decrease incidence of candidiasis in bone marrow transplants
Contraindications and cautions:
- Contraindicated with hypersensitivity to fluconazole, lactation.
- Use cautiously with renal impairment.
Adverse effects:
- CNS: Headache
- GI: Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain
- Other: Rash
If you experience any of the following symptoms, call your doctor immediately:
- upset stomach
- extreme tiredness
- unusual bruising or bleeding
- lack of energy
- loss of appetite
- pain in the upper right part of the stomach
- yellowing of the skin or eyes
- flu-like symptoms
- dark urine
- pale stools
- seizures
- rash
- hives
- itching
- swelling of the face , throat, tongue, lips, eyes, hands, feet, ankles, or lower legs
- difficulty breathing or swallowing
Interactions:
- Increased serum levels and therefore therapeutic and toxic effects of cyclosporine, phenytoin, benzodiazepines, oral hypoglycemics, warfarin anticoagulants, zidovudine
- Decreased serum levels with rifampin, theophylline, TCAs, losartan
