Active Ingredients:
- terbinafine
Therapeutic actions: Lamisil is an antimycotic agent. Among all anti-fungal medicines only Lamisil exerts fungicidal action against dermatophytes, mold and dimorphic fungi. Therapeutic effect is associated with inhibiting the enzymes responsible for biosynthesis of sterols in fungal cell wall. The deficiency of sterol makes cells wall unstable that is ultimately fatal for the fungi. Lamisil does not act on hormonal metabolism.
Indications: Lamisil cream and spray are used in superficial skin infections such as jock itch (Tinea cruris), athlete's foot (Tinea pedis) and Ringworm.
Lamisil tablets are indicated in:
- Nail fungus(onychomycosis)
- Tinea capitis
Contraindications and cautions: Talk with your health care provider prior to taking this medicine if you experience the following conditions:
- Known hypersensitivity or allergy to any of the medications active ingredients
- Liver diseases, including cirrhosis
- Vision disorders
- Low white blood cells counts
- Kidney disease or kidney failure
- Weak immune system(associated with cancer and HIV)
- Systemic lupus erythematosus
- Pregnancy
- Breastfeeding
Adverse effects: There are possible side-effects associated with this medicine that can affect individuals in different ways. If a side effect is stated here, that does not necessarily mean the fact that all people using Lamisil will experience it or any other.
Lamisil is usually well tolerated. In some cases patients may experience the following adverse effects:
- Headache
- Diarrhea
- Skin rash
- Dyspepsia
- Stomach pain
- Hives
- Taste changes

Lamisil may interact with the following therapeutic groups:
- Beta blockers
- Antipsychotics
- Medications for arrhythmias
- Medications for attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD)
- MAO inhibitors
- Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) and serotonin/norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors (SNRIs), including:
- Antibiotics(rifampicin)
- Blood thinners
