Active Ingredients: ketoconazole

Therapeutic actions: Nizoral has an active ingredient ketoconazole. Nizoral is a type of drug called an antifungal. It works by interfering with yeasts and fungi cell membranes. Nizoral stops the fungi from producing a substance called ergosterol. Ergosterol is an essential component of fungal cell membranes. The decreased production of ergosterol causes holes to appear in cell membrane of fungi and this kills them .

Indications:
Nizoral is used to treat:

  • athlete's foot (tinea pedis).
  • ringworm (tinea corporis)
  • jock itch (tinea cruris)
  • skin inflammation with red, greasy and scaly areas (seborrhoeic dermatitis).
  • pityriasis versicolor( fungal skin condition)
  • Skin infection caused by Candida
  • vaginal thrush (candidal vaginitis).
  • candidal vulvitis(external symptoms)

Contraindications and cautions:
You should not use Nizoral

  • if you have an allergy to ketoconazole

You should talk with your health care provider prior to taking Nizoral :

  • if you are pregnant
  • if you are breastfeeding
  • if you are under 16 or over 60 years of age
  • if your sexual partner is also has thrush, you should begin your treatment at the same time.
