Active Ingredients: Cytisine

Therapeutic actions: Tabex is an original Bulgarian preparation of plant origin, intended for the treatment of tobacco smoking. The preparation is developed on the basis of the alkaloid Cytisine, contained in the plant Cytisus laborinum L. (Golden Rain acacia). In the human body, Cytisine plays the role of nicotine substitution substance, and reduces the period of interaction of the received nicotine with relevant nicotine receptors, i.e. the specific substance cytisine "substitutes" nicotine, acting on the same receptors, thus preventing the appearance of abstinence syndrome. This results in a gradual reduction and suspension of the psychic and physical dependency to nicotine in smokers.

Indications: Smoking cessation in smokers.

Contraindications and cautions: Tabex should be used only in patients, which seriously intend to stop smoking. The patient must be warned that Tabex use together with persisting smoking can lead to increased adverse nicotine effects. In patients suffering from ischemic heart disease, heart failure, cerebrovascular diseases, arterial diseases with obliteration, hyperthyroidism, diabetes, renal and hepatic failure, Tabex should be used after careful assessment by the physician.

Adverse effects: The most frequent adverse reactions after the beginning of the treatment using Tabex are: changes in taste and appetite, dry mouth, headache, increased irritability, nausea, constipation, tachycardia, slightly elevated blood pressure. These reactions disappear during the treatment.

Interactions: There are no data for any clinically significant drug interactions of Tabex with other drugs.
