Therapeutic actions: Acyclovir is a anti viral preparation, synthetic analogue of acyclic purine nucleotide that possesses a highly selective action on Herpes viruses. Acyclovir exerts antiviral action due to the ability to fit into viral DNA and subsequent DNA blocks via inhibiting viral DNA- polymerase. Acyclovir is effective against Herpes Simplex type 1 and 2, Varicella zoster. In high concentration Acyclovir acts on Epstein-Barr virus.
Indications: Acyclovir is indicated in the following conditions:
- Shingles
- Genital herpes
- Chickenpox.
Complex treatment in patents with immunodeficiency(HIV, bone marrow transplantation)
Contraindications and cautions: Acyclovir should not be used if any of the following conditions apply to you:
- Known individual intolerance of any of the medication active ingredients
- Pregnancy
- Breastfeeding
- Kidney diseases including kidney failure
- Neurological disorders
Acyclovir Side effects: There are possible side-effects related to this medication that can affect patients in different ways. If a side effect is stated here, that does not necessarily mean the fact that all people using Acyclovir will experience it or any other.
- CNS: Headache, vertigo, depression, tremors, encephalopathic changes
