Drug name: Crestor
Active Ingredients:
- rosuvastatin calcium
Therapeutic actions:
Crestor contains the active ingredient rosuvastatin calcium which belongs to a group of medicines called HMG-CoA reductase inhibitors. This enzyme is responsible for the production of cholesterol by the liver cells. Decreased synthesis of cholesterol causes liver to collect it from the blood and then metabolize. Creastor also increases the amount of good cholesterol (HDL) and decreases blood levels of triglycerides.
Indications: Crestor is indicated for the treatment of the following conditions:
- Primary hypercholesterolemia (high cholesterol blood levels)
- Hypertriglyceridemia
- Homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia
- Dysbetalipoproteinemia
- Lowering the risk of heart attacks and strokes associated with atherosclerosis
Contraindications and cautions:
Crestor should not be taken in:
- Hypersensitivity to any of the medication ingredients
- Pregnancy
- Breastfeeding
- Severe liver and kidney diseases
- Thyroid diseases
- Make sure to consult your health care provider if you abuse alcohol or are of Asia descent.
Adverse effects: There are possible side effects associated with this medicine that can affect individuals in different ways. - Allergic reactions: hives
- CNS: headache, dizziness
- Digestive system: constipation, nausea, stomach pain, increased activity of livers transaminases, jaundice, hepatitis
- Dermatological reactions: skin rash, itching.
- Urogenital system: proteinuria
- Other: asthenia
