Active Ingredients:
- fenofibrate
Therapeutic actions: Tricor belongs to a group of medicines called fibrates( derivates of fibric acid). Therapeutic effect of Tricor is associated with increasing the synthesis of ferment called lipoprotein lipase. This enzyme works by breaking down the triglyceride and increases their elimination out of the body. Tricor also lowers the amount of LDL(low density lipoproteins) and cholesterol levels, increases HDL(high density lipoproteins), lowers fibrogen and increase the excretion of uric acid.
Indications:Tricor is indicated in the following conditions:
- High cholesterol levels in patients with hypercholesterolemia
- High Triglyceride levels in patients with hypertriglyceridemia (high triglycerides).
Contraindications and cautions: Tricor(fenofibrate) should not be used in the following conditions:
- Known hypersensitivity or allergy to any of the medication active ingredients
- Severe liver diseases
- High amount of liver enzymes
- Severe kidney disease
- Gallbladder disease or gallstones
- Pregnancy and breastfeeding
Necessarily let your health care provider know if you experience the following conditions:
- Diabetes
- Gallbladder disease or gallstones
- Cardiovascular illnesses
- Kidney failure
- Liver failure
- Thyroid gland diseases
Adverse effects: There are possible side-effects associated with this medicine that can affect individuals in different ways. If a side effect is stated here, that does not necessarily mean the fact that all people using Tricor will experience it or any other.
- The most common side effects include: chest congestion, difficulty breathing, stomach pain, back pain, headache, runny nose, diarrhea, nausea, body weakness, flu-like symptoms
- The less common side effects include: weakness, tenderness, unexplained muscle pain, nausea or vomiting, fever, dark-colored urine, yellowing of the skin, feeling, itching, bleedings

Tricor may interact with the following medicines:
- Blood thinners(Warfarin)
- HMG-CoA reductase inhibitors(Statins)
- Cyclosporine
- Bile acid sequestrants (resins): cholestyramine, colestipol
