Generic Ovral
Drug name: Generic Ovral

Active Ingredients:
- ethinyl estradiol
- Norgestrel
Therapeutic actions: Generic Ovral contains a combination of female sex hormones estrogens and progestins. Ovral is a monophasic oral birth control pill with works by inhibiting the release of hormones (luteinizing and follicle-stimulating hormones). These hormones are responsible for the ovulation. The medication also increases the viscosity of the cervical mucous making the movement of sperm cells very difficult. Birth control effect is also related to endomethrium modification making egg implantation nearly impossible.
Indications: The medication is used for the prevention of undesirable pregnancy (hormonal contraception). In some cases a doctor may suggest Ovral for the treatment of premenstrual disorders.
Contraindications and cautions:
Generic Ovral is contraindicated in the following conditions:
- Hypersensitivity to any of the drug ingredients
- Tetany
- Tumors of the mammary gland or genitals
- Increased predisposition to thrombosis
- Anemia (chronic hemolytic anemia)
- Cerebrovascular diseases
- Diabetes
- Disorders of the lipid metabolism
- Cholecystitis
- Cholelithiasis
- Dubin-Johnson syndrome
- Rotor's syndrome
- Breastfeeding
- Pregnancy
- Breastfeeding
- Hepatitis
- Endocrine diseases
- Chronic colitis
- Disorders of the lipid metabolism
- Diabetes
- Cerebrovascular diseases
- Severe diseases of the cardiovascular system
Stop taking generic Ovral immediately if you experience the following conditions:
- sudden headache (migraine), faint and vision problems
- sudden leg pain (especially in calf muscles)
- increased blood pressure
- jaundice
- itching
- seizures

The most common Ovral side effects include:
- bleeding and spotting between during periods
- vomiting

- Inductors of liver metabolism such as rifampicin, phenobarbital, anti-seizure medications, ketoconazole, cimetidine, macrolides, tetracyclines, amphenicols
- Anticoagulants
- Tricyclic antidepressants
- Oral diabetes drugs, insulin
- Hepatotoxic medications (especially with dantrolene)
- Bromocriptine
