Drug name: Logest
Active Ingredients:
- ethinyl estradiol, gestoden
Therapeutic actions: Logest is a low dosed monophase oral combined estrogen-gestogen contraceptive drug. The contraceptive effect of Logest consists of 3 complementary mechanisms:
- Suppression of ovulation on the level of hypothalamic-pituitary regulation.
- Modifications of cervical secret properties, resulting in impenetrability for sperm cell (spermatozoons).
- Endometrium modification, which makes implantation of a fertilized ovule nearly impossible.
Also use of Logest makes menstrual cycle more regular, lowers the intensity of pain during menstruation, decreases menstrual bleeding, thus lowering the risk of iron-deficiency anemia.
Indication: Prevention of pregnancy(contraception)
Contraindications: You should not use Logest if any of the following conditions apply to you. If these conditions appear while the treatment, stop taking this medication immediately:
- Thrombosis(venous or arterial) or thrombembolia(at the present time or in anamnesis)
- State antecedent to thrombosis
- Migraine
- Insular diabetes with vascular complications
- Multiple risk factors of venous or arterial thrombosis including affection of mitral valve, arrhythmia, diseases of brain vessels and coronary arteries of the heart, uncontrolled arterial hypertension.
- Pancreatitis
- Renal dysfunction and acute liver disease.
- Liver tumors (benign or malignant)
- Revealed hormone-dependent tumors
- Vaginal hemorrhage
- Pregnancy
- Lactation period(breastfeeding)
- Hypersensitivity to the components of preparation
- Longterm immobilization, serious surgical operation, surgery on extremities, major trauma
Logest should be used with caution in:
- Obesity or hyperlipidemia
- Otosclerosis with hearing impair, idiopathic jaundice, itching during previous pregnancy
- Migraine
- Thrombophlebitis of superficial veins
- Constitutional hyperbilirubinemia(Gilbert's disease)
- Diabetes
- Systemic lupus erythematosus
- Hemolytic uremic syndrome
- Grohn's disease
- Sickle cell anemia
- High blood pressure
Pregnancy and breastfeeding. Logest is not indicated during pregnancy and breastfeeding. If you became pregnant while taking Logest, stop using it.
Logest may reduce the amount and consistency of breast milk, thus, is contraindicated in lactation period.
Important information.
Combine oral contraception medications can cause irregular bleedings(vaginal spotting or breakthrough bleeding) especially during first months of application. If irregular bleedings repeats and develops after regular cycles, it is necessary to carry a narrow examination to exclude malignant growth or pregnancy.
Before treatment with Logest it is recommended to make general and gynecological examination, exclude pregnancy and disorders of the blood-dotting sequence.
Logest side effects: There are possible side-effects associated with this medicine that can affect individuals in different ways. If a side effect is stated here, that does not necessarily mean the fact that all people using Logest will experience it or any other.
Side effects include: Delicacy, enlargement of mammary glands, or nipple discharge, blood discharges and uterine bleeding. Migraine, change in libido, sudden decreases or changes in mood, visual impairment, sickness, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, change in vaginal secretion, skin irritation, rash, erythema, generalized itching, jaundice, fluid excretion disorders, changes in weight, allergic reactions. Rare - diarrhea and undue fatiguability, formation of blood clots.

Interactions: It is important to tell your doctor or pharmacist what medicines you are already taking, including those bought without a prescription and herbal medicines, before you start treatment with Logest. - Sulfonamid drugs , derivates of pirazolone can increase metabolism of steroidal hormones which are located in the preparation
- Longterm treatment with drugs which induce liver enzymes, resulting in clearance extension for sex hormones, can cause vaginal bleeding and/or decrease in efficacy of Logest.
- Contraceptive effectiveness is lowered when using antibiotics of ampicilin and tetracycline type.
- Combined contraceptives can influence metabolism of cyclosporines thus reducing their efficacy. Tell your doctor or pharmacist what medicines you are already taking, including those bought without a prescription and herbal medicines, before you start treatment with this medicine.
