Drug name: Avandamet

Therapeutic actions: Avandamet is a combination of 2 drugs Rosiglitazone (thiazolidinedione) and metformine (biguanide) both of them antidiabetics. They work by decreasing the amount of sugar absorbed by the intestines and produced be liver. Avandamet also makes the organism more sensitive to insulin that it produces.

Indications: Avandamet oral is used along with diet and exercise for treatment of type 2 diabetes.

Contraindications and cautions: Tell your local health care provider regarding the below mentioned conditions if any apply to you before starting therapy. If you:

• are allergic to any ingredient in Avandamet
• have insulin-dependent diabetes
• have a history of heart problems
• have High acid levels in blood
• Suffer form Anemia
• have Kidney dysfunction
• have Ketoacidosis
• are Dehydrated
• are suffering from a serious infection
• had a stroke or are in a shock
• are an Elder past 80 and in need of kidney tests
• are have an appointment for surgery
• have liver problems
• are taking a nitrate drugs or using insulin

Adverse effects: Medicines and their possible side effects can affect individual people in different ways. Be sure to stop using Avandamet if any of these start to manifest or an allergic reaction occurs (swelling,hives, breathing difficulty):

• mild exertion or shortness of breath
• weight gain, swelling
• fever, chills, body aches, flu symptoms;
• Rash, blistering etc.
• Jaundice
• dark urine
• Stomach problems or appetite loss

Other less serious side-effects of Avandamet are:

• headache,
• sneezing, runny nose, cough or other signs of a cold;
• diarrhea
• back pain, joint or muscle pain;

Other medication which interacts with Avandamet are:

• gemfibrozil
• rifampin
• nifedipine
• cimetidine or ranitidine ;
• amiloride or triamterene
• digoxin ;
• morphine
• procainamide
• quinidine
• trimethoprim
• vancomycin
