Active Ingredients: Metformin

Therapeutic actions: Metformin reduces hepatic gluconeogenesis, decreases absorption of glucose from the gastrointestinal tract and increases peripheral utilization of glucose.

Indications: Metformin is used to treat Diabetes mellitus type 2 along with other medications (Insulin, glibenclamide, rosiglitazone)

Contraindications and cautions:
Several conditions may develop when using metformin be sure to ask your health provider regarding the possible symptoms and treatment for them. These conditions include:

  • Lacticacidosis
  • Hypoglycemia
  • Hyperglycemia

Be sure to mention to your health provider if any of the following apply to you:

  • Congestive heart failure or a history of hear disease
  • allergy to metformin
  • Kidney disease or kidney failure
  • Diabetic ketoacidosis
  • Liver disease

Metformine is in FDA pregnancy category B. Meaning that it is not expected to be harmful to an unborn baby however it should not given to children younger than 10 years old. If you are breastfeeding be sure to consult your doctor if it is possible for you to use metformin.
