Glirid
Drug name: Glirid
Therapeutic actions: Glirid is an oral hypoglycemic preparations which belongs to a group of drugs called sulfonilamides. The drug works by stimulating the secretion of insulin from the β-cells of the pancreas and sensitivity of the peripheral tissues to inuslin.
Indications: The drug is indicated in treatment of Diabetes type II (non-insulin dependent) as an addition to specific exercise and diet which leads to decrease in body weight.
Contraindications and cautions: The drug should not be used in the following condition
- Insulin dependent diabetes type I
- Ketoacidosis
- Diabetic Coma
- Severe renal an liver insufficiency
- Hypersensitivity to gliperimide
- Pregnancy and lactation period
Adverse effects: There are possible side-effects associated with this medicine that can affect individuals in different ways. If a side effect is stated here, that does not necessarily mean the fact that all people using Glirid will experience it or any other. The side-effects include:
- Immune system: hypotension, hypersensitivity reactions
- Haemopoiesis system: thrombocytopenia, leukopenia, hemolitic anemia, agranulocitosis and etc.
- Hypoglycemic reactions of different manifestation express nearly immediately after application
- Vision impairment
- Gastrointestinal tract: nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, flatulence, diarrhea
- Liver and biliary pathways: increased liver enzyme function, jaundice, cholestasis
- Skin disorders: Allergic reactions, itching, rash and etc.
- Other: decreased levels of sodium in the blood serum

- Hypertension treatment
- Alcohol
- NSAID's
