Active Ingredients:
- spironolactone
Therapeutic actions: Verospiron contains the active ingredient Spironolactone that belongs to a group of medicines called diuretic(water pills). Spironolactone works by blocking the receptors of aldesterone resulting in increased water removal by the kidney. Thus, Spironlactone lowers water retention and reduces blood volume.
Verospiron is a “potassium-sparing” diuretic, meaning that it does not cause increased potassium elimination out of the body.
Indications: Verospiron is indicated in the following conditions:
- Hyperaldosteronism(increased aldosterone production)
- Hypertension(high blood pressure)
- Water retention
- Congestive heart failure (CHF)
- Cirrhosis of the liver
- Kidney disease
- Treating low levels of potassium in the blood (hypokalemia).
Contraindications and cautions: Verospiron should not be taken in the following conditions:
- Hypersensitivity or allergy to any of the medication ingredients
- Severe kidney disease(renal failure)
- Inability to produce urine(anuria)
- High potassium levels
- Pregnancy
- Breastfeeding

- Any cardiovascular disease
- Liver disease
- Fluid or electrolyte problem

Verospiron may cause the following side effects:
- High potassium levels( burning, tingling, muscle weakness, low heart rate)
- Jaundice
- Skin allergic reactions( rash, hives, itching)
- Breast lumps
- Gastrointestinal system(nausea, vomiting, diarrhea)
- CNS: headache, confusion, drowsiness, fever

Verospriton may interact with the following medicines:
- ACE inhibitors
- Alcohol
- Angiotensin II receptor blockers
- Barbiturates
- Other blood pressure medicine
- Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs
- Lithium
- Potassium containing products
- Triamterene
