Diclogenta
Drug name: Diclogenta
Active Ingredients:
- Diclofenac sodium,
- gentamicin sulphate.
Therapeutic actions: Diclogenta contains two active ingredients: diclofenac sodium and gentamicin sulphate.
Diclofenac sodium belongs to a group of medicines called non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, NSAIDs for short. Diclofenac sodium shows analgesic and anti-inflammatory properties in pharmacological studies. It works by inhibiting the enzyme cyclooxygenase, that is essential for prostaglandins biosynthesis.
Prostaglandins have been shown to be inflammation mediators ,that increase vascular permeability and leykocytosis, cause disruption of the blood-aqueous humor barrier and dilate the blood vessels inside the eye. That, in its turn, increases the intra-ocular pressure.
Clinical studies have shown Diclofenac sodium possesses the same pharmaceutical activity as steroids in treating eye problems.
Gentamicin belongs to a group of antibiotics called aminoglycosides.
Gentamicin possesses a wide spectrum action. It is effective against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria including Escherichia coli, Klebsiella spp., Proteus spp., Enterobacter spp, Providencia stuartii, Salmonella spp., Shigella spp., Acinetobacter spp., Staphylococcus spp.
Gentamicin works by causing the bacteria to produce abnormal proteins that makes impossible for the bacteria to grow and multiply. It does it by penetrating the bacterial cell and disrupting the protein's synthesis.
