Cardil
Drug name: Cardil
Active Ingredients:
- Diltiazem
Therapeutic actions: Cardil contains the active ingredient diltiazem that belongs to III generation of calcium channel blockers. Cardil works by lowering the entrance of calcium ions into heart tissue and smooth muscles. Cardil exerts anti-anginal, hypotensive and anti-arrhythmic action. Action mechanism in angina is associated with dilatation of coronal arteries and concomitant afterload on the heart.
Cardil lowers systolic and diastolic pressure due to dilatation of the peripheral vessels. Therapeutic effect is observed in 4 after the beginning of therapy.
Cardil inhibits calcium entrance into AV sinus node exerting therapeutic action in supraventricular arrhythmia.
Indications: Cardil is indicated in the following conditions:
- Arterial hypertension
- Angina
- Therapy after myocardial infarction
- Supraventricular heart rhythm disorders
- Pulmonary hypertension
Contraindications and cautions: Cardil should not be used in:
- AV blockage 2 and 3 type
- Arterial hypotension
- Sick sinus syndrome
- Pregnancy
- Breastfeeding
Cardil should be used with caution in liver and kidney diseases, severe heart failure, cardiogenic shock, Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome

Cardil increases the blood levels of Digoxin. In combination with anti antiarrhythmic medications, b-blockers, cardiac glycosides Diltiazem increases the risk of slow heart beat, disturbances of AV-conductibility and symptoms of the heart failure.
Cimetidine impairs the process of Cardil biotrasnformation in the liver, retards its elimination, increases the duration of the Diltiazem therapeutic effect.
Cardil may increase the toxic effects of carbamazepine, chinidine, cyclosporin and theophylline due to inhibiting the activity of cytochrome P-450
