Coryol
Drug name: Coryol
Active Ingredients:
- Carvedilol
Indications: Coryol is indicated to treat high blood pressure(hypertension). It can be use in monotherapy or in combination with other anti-hypertensive preparations.
- Treatment of stable angina(stenocardia)
- Treatment of chronic heart failure(in combination with other medications).
Contraindications and cautions:
Carvedilol is contraindicated in the following conditions:
- Increased sensitivity to carvedilol and other ingredients of the preparation
- A problem common in the elderly, related to poor control of the working of the heart (sick sinus syndrome)
- Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) , bronchial asthma
- Severe liver failure
- Bradycardia or slow heart rate less than 50 beats per minute.
- Sino-atrial heart block
- Cardiogenic shock
- Acute heart failure and chronic heart failure in decompensation stage
- Narrowing of the airways called bronchospasm
- Increased acid levels in the blood (metabolic acidosis)
- Atrioventricular blockage(heart block) 2nd and 3rd degree
- Pulmonary hypertension
- Low blood pressure(severe hypotension)
- Tumour of the adrenal gland called phaeochromocytoma
- In children under 18 years old
- Fructose and lactose intolerance
- Pregnancy
- Breastfeeding
Carvedilol should be used with caution if any of the following conditions apply to you:
- Prinzmetal's angina(stenocardia)
- Thyrotoxicosis
- Occlusal diseases of peripheral vessels
- Psoriasis
- Kidney failure
- Heart block 1st degree
- Surgical interventions and general anesthesia
- Diabetes
- Low blood sugar called hypoglycaemia
- Depression
- Muscle weaknees(myasthenia)
- Raynaud's disease
- Any cardiovascular diseases
- Desensitisation therapy
Warning!
- People with diabetes should regularly monitor sugar blood levels while taking this medication
- Carvedilol may mask the symptoms of the thyrotoxicosis
- Do not stop taking Carvedilol abruptly, especially in patients with ischaemic heart disease.
- Alcoholic beverages may enhance the effects of carvedilol increasing the risk of side effects including fatigue and dizziness.
- Carvedilol should be taken with food in people with chronic heart failure.
- You should regularly monitor blood pressure and check ECG if Carvedilol is used in conjunction with “slow”calcium channel blockers(Verapamil, Diltiazem) and with 1st class of antiarrythmic drugs.
- It is recommended to monitor kidney function in patients with chronic liver failure, low blood pressure and chronic heart failure.
- In people with phaeochromocytoma before treatment it is necessary to indicate alpha-adrenoblockers.
- Patients who wear contact lenses should be aware that Carvedilol can cause dry eyes.
Beginning the treatment of heart failure should be carefully controlled by the hospital specialists. The symptoms of heart failure may worsen in the beginning of the treatment with Coryol.
Carvedilol side effects: There are possible side-effects associated with this medicine that can affect individuals in different ways. If a side effect is stated here, that does not necessarily mean the fact that all people using Coryol will experience it or any other.
CNS: dizziness, headache, fatigue, depression, insomnia, paresthesia
Cardiovascular system: slow heart beat, low blood pressure, heart block, edemas of the low extremities, disorders of the peripheral circulation, angina(stenocardia)
Digestive system: dry mouth, nausea, diarrhea or constipation, vomiting, abdominal pain, decreased appetite, increased activity of the liver's ferments
Hematopoietic system: leucopenia, trombocytopenia
Metabolism: weight gain, disorders of the carbohydrate's metabolism
Allergic reactions: skin rash, itching, hives, psoriasis exacerbation, nasal congestion, sneezing
Respiratory system: gasping, bronchospasm
Urinary system: in rare cases kidney dysfunction, liver failure
Other: vision disorders, dry eyes, myalgia, arthralgia, pain in the extremities.

In people with diabetes, carvedilol can prolong the lowering of blood sugar (hypoglycaemia) caused by insulin or other oral antidiabetic medications. .
Carvedilol may increase the blood levels of the ciclosporin, digoxin.
Digoxin and diltiazem in conjunction with Carvedilol may cause slow heart rate.
Simultaneous use of Verapamil, antiarrythmic medications with Carvedilol increases the risk of slow heart rate or heart block.
Antiarrhythmic drugs, verapamil and diltiazem should not be given i/v (injected into a vein) to people taking this medicine.
Calcium channel blockers may increase the risk of a large fall in blood pressure
Antihypertenisive medications may increase the risk of carvedilol side effects.
Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) such as indometacin may reduce the blood pressure lowering effects of carvedilol.
Carvedilol in combination with adrenaline may cause severe high blood pressure and slow heart rate.
Rifampicin increases the removal of Carvedilol from the body, which may result in decreased therapeutic effects of the Carvedilol
