Generic Avapro contains the active ingredient Irbesartan which belongs to a group of medicines called Angiotensin II receptor blockers. By blocking angiotensin receptors Avapro prevents the vasoconstrictive effects of Angiotensin II. Avapro also lowers the amount of aldosterone in the blood. Irvesartan blocks all the effects of angiotensin II which acts through the receptors AT1. Irbesartan lowers blood pressure and does not affect heart rate.Indications: Irbesartan is indicated in the following conditions:
- High blood pressure (hypertension)
- Treatment of nephropathy in patients with arterial hypertension in diabetes type 2 (in combination with other medicines)
Contraindications and cautions: Irbesartan should not be taken in the following conditions:
Hereditary intolerance of galactose, lactose insufficiency and disorders of glucose absorbtion Pregnancy Breastfeeding Children and adolescents under 18 years of age Hypersensitivity to any of the medication ingredients The medication should be used with caution in aortal and mitral stenosis, cardiomyopathy, dehydration, low sodium blood levels, diarrhea, vomiting, therapy with diuretics, double-side stenosis of the renal artery, chronic heart failure, atherosclerosis of the brain vessels, high potassium blood levels, severe liver failure.Adverse effects: There are possible side effects associated with this medicine that can affect individuals in different ways. If a side effect is stated here, that does not necessarily mean the fact that all people using Irbesartan will experience it or any other.
- The most observed Avapro side effects are: dizziness, fatigue, diarrhea, heartburn.
- The less common Avapro side effects are : skin rash, itching, swelling, problems with breathing, wheezing, constipation, depression, gas.
