Drug name: Movalis
Active Ingredients:
- Meloxicam
Therapeutic actions: Movalis belongs to a group of drugs called NSAID's or non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. The drug decreases the production of prostaglandins through selective inhibition of COX-2 enzyme at the same time having low effect on COX-1 enzyme inhibition of which causes gastrointestinal problems in patients taking NSAID's. Movalis also has long half-life meaning that therapeutic concentration is maintained in the blood for a long period of time thus allowing the use of meloxicam only once a day.
Indications: The drug is prescribed in the following conditions:
- Osteoarthritis and related symptoms
- Rheumatoid arthritis
- Juvenile rheumatoid arthritis
- Ankylosing spondylitis
Contraindications and cautions: Consult your doctor if the following apply to you before using meloxicam:
- Any allergies to food or drugs
- Bronchial asthma
- Nasal polyps
- Kidney or liver dysfunctions
- Swelling of extremities
- You plan to become pregnant, are pregnant or are breastfeeding
- You plan to have surgery
