Therapeutic actions: Celebrex(celecoxib) belongs to a group of medicines called NSAID (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug). Celebrex inhibits the enzyme COX2( cyclooxigenase-2) resulting in inhibiting the production of inflammatory mediators called prostoglandins. Thus, Celebrex exerts anti-inflammatory and moderate analgesic effects.
Indications: Celebrex is indicated in the following conditions:
- Painful syndrome of a different origin
- Treating of osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis manifestations such as swelling, pain and stiffness.
- Painful menstrual periods
Celebrex is sometimes prescribed for rectal and colon polyps in patients with familial adenomatous polyposis (FAP)
Contraindications and cautions: Celebrex should not be used in the following conditions:
- Allergy to any of the medication ingredients or allergy to sulfa medicines.
- Tendency to skin allergic reactions, bronchial asthma, hives, intolerance of NSAID's
- Third pregnancy trimester
- Breastfeeding
Necessarily let your health care provider know in the following conditions:
- Cardiovascular diseases(congestive heart failure, hypertension)
- Liver diseases(liver failure)
- Diabetes
- Bleedings of a different origin
- Kidney disease(kidney failure)
