Therapeutic actions: Mecetam belongs to a class of preparations called nootropic agents. Mecetam works by improving cognitive processes such as memory, attention, ability to memorization. Mecetam does not cause sedative and psycho-stimulating effects. Mecetam improves cerebral microcirculation, inhibits platelets aggregation and restores the elasticity of the red blood cells membrane. Mecetam exerts protective and restorative action in cerebral dysfunction associated with hypoxia, intoxication and trauma, lowers the duration and intensity of the vestibular nystagmus.
Indications: Piracetam is approved to treat the following conditions:
- Conditions after ischemic stroke manifested in emotional problems, speech disorders
- Psychoorganic syndrome(symptomatic treatment)
- Nerve system disease
- Abstinent, pre- and delirious states in alcoholism and narcomania;
- Cortical myoclonia;
- Sicklemia treatment
Contraindications and cautions: Mecetam should be taken in:
- Hypersensitivity to piracetam or other compounds of the medication
- Hemorrhagic stroke;
- Severe renal impairment
- Pregnancy and breastfeeding
- Infants under 3 years of age
Mecetam adverse effects: There are possible side effects associated with this medicine that can affect individuals in different ways. If a side effect is stated here, that does not necessarily mean the fact that all people using Mecetam will experience it or any other.
Mecetam may cause the following side effects:
- CNS: anxiety, insomnia, headache, vertigo, weakness, somnolence
- Digestive system: nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, stomach upset
- Metabolism: increase in body weight
- Allergic reactions: skin rash, hives, edema

- CNS stimulants. Piracetam enhances the effects of CNS stimulants.
- Neuroleptics. Piracetam increases the effects of neroleptcs
- Blood thinners. Piracetam enhances the effects of blood thinners(warfarin)
