Levitra
Drug name: Levitra
Therapeutic actions: The active ingredient of Levitra tablets is vardenafil. Levitra prevents the action of phosphodiesterase which breaks down cyclic GMP in the blood vessel walls. Cyclic GMP relaxes blood muscles and increases blood flow to penis. Penis becomes erect and rigid. Inhibiting the action of phosphodiesterase causes stopping the breakdown of cyclic GMP. Blood vessels can be dilated for longer, increasing blood flow to the penis and maintaining an erection.
Indications: Levitra is used to treat:
- erectile dysfunction(Impotence) in men.
Contraindications and cautions:
You should not use Levitra:
- if you are allergic to Vardenafil
- in adolescents or children under 18 years of age
- if you are women
- Severely liver insufficiency
- Severely kidney insufficiency
- If you have galactose intolerance, Lapp lactase deficiency or glucose-galactose malabsorption.
- if you have severe heart disorders (unstable angina , heart failure)
- if have recently had a heart attack
- if you have low blood pressure
- if you taking nitrate medications, eg glyceryl trinitrate , antiarrhythmics (eg, quinidine, amiodarone)
- if you have a stroke
- if you have hereditary degeneration of the back of the eyeball (retina), such as retinitis pigmentosa
- if you are taking drugs called "poppers" (eg, amyl nitrate, butyl nitrate)
You should talk with your health care provider prior to taking Levitra
- in elderly people
- if you have kidney disorders
- if you have liver disorders
- Diseases of the heart and blood vessels
- if you have aortic stenosis - narrowing of the aorta
- if you experience bleeding disorders, (haemophilia)
- if you have stomach disease such as peptic ulcer
- if you have physical abnormality of the penis, such as severe curvature, scarring or Peyronie's disease
- if you have bone cancer or leukaemia in which there is an increased risk of prolonged erections (priapism)
Warning!
- Levitra can cause visual disturbances and dizziness, it is not recommend to operate machinery.
- You should use Levitra on an empty stomach.
- You should use Levitra with caution with grapefruit juice while it can increase possible side effects.
- Levitra is not recommended for use more then once a day.
- If your erection continues longer than 4 hours , you should consult your health care provider.

- an allergic reaction such as : breathing disorders; closing of the throat; swelling of the lips, tongue, or face; or hives)
- nausea, or angina
- pain in back
- chest pain or an irregular heartbeats
- swelling of the ankles or legs
- shortness of breath
- dizziness
- fainting
- painful and long erection
- flushing
- headache
- nasal congestion
- stomach disturbances
- sensitivity of the eyes to light;
- vision disorders

Especially pay attention to the following drugs:
- cimetidine (Tagamet, Tagamet HB);
- doxazosin (Cardura), prazosin (Minipress), terazosin (Hytrin)
- erythromycin (E-Mycin, Eryc, Ery-Tab) or clarithromycin (Biaxi
- itraconazole (Sporanox) or ketoconazole (Nizoral)
- heart rhythm medicine such as amiodarone (Cordarone, Pacerone), quinidine(Quinidex, Quinaglute), procainamide (Procan, Pronestyl), or sotalol (Betapace)
- HIV medicines such as amprenavir (Agenerase), tipranavir (Aptivus), darunavir (Prezista), efavirenz (Sustiva), nevirapine (Viramune), indinavir (Crixivan), saquinavir (Invirase, Fortovase), lopinavir/ritonavir (Kaletra), fosamprenavir (Lexiva), ritonavir (Norvir), atazanavir (Reyataz), or nelfinavir (Viracept)
- carbamazepine (Tegretol), phenobarbital (Luminal), or phenytoin (Dilantin)
- rifampin (Rifadin, Rimactane).
