Viagra
Drug name: Viagra
Therapeutic actions: The active ingredient of Viagra tablets is sildenafil citrate. Viagra prevents the action of phosphodiesterase type 5 which breaks down cyclic GMP in the blood vessel walls. Cyclic GMP relaxes blood muscles and increases blood flow to penis. Penis becomes erect and rigid. Inhibiting the action of phosphodiesterase type 5 causes stopping the breakdown of cyclic GMP. Blood vessels can be dilated for longer, increasing blood flow to the penis and maintaining an erection.
Indications: is used to treat:
- erectile dysfunction(Impotence) in men.
Contraindications and cautions:
You should not use Viagra :
- in adolescents or children under 18 years of age
- if you are women
- Severely liver insufficiency
- If you have galactose intolerance, Lapp lactase deficiency or glucose-galactose malabsorption.
- if you have severe heart disorders (unstable angina , heart failure)
- if have recently had a heart attack
- if you have low blood pressure
- if you taking nitrate medications, eg glyceryl trinitrate
- if you have a stroke
- If you have ever experienced an eye condition called non-arteritic anterior ischemic optic neuropathy (NAION). This condition is manifested with loss of vision in one or both eyes
- if you have hereditary degeneration of the back of the eyeball (retina), such as retinitis pigmentosa
You should talk with your health care provider prior to taking Viagra:
- in elderly people
- if you have kidney disorders
- if you have liver disorders
- Diseases of the heart and blood vessels
- if you have aortic stenosis - narrowing of the aorta
- if you experience bleeding disorders, (haemophilia)
- if you have such as peptic ulcer
- if you have physical abnormality of the penis, such as severe curvature, scarring or Peyronie's disease
- if you have bone cancer or leukaemia in which there is an increased risk of prolonged erections (priapism)
Warning!
- can cause visual disturbances and dizziness, it is not recommend to operate machinery.
- You should use Viagra on an empty stomach.
- You should use Viagra with caution with grapefruit juice while it can increase possible side effects.
- Viagra is not recommended for use more then once a day.
- If your erection continues longer than 4 hours , you should consult your health care provider.

- pain spreading to the arm or shoulder

- back pain
- headache
- stomach disorders

- cimetidine (Tagamet, Tagamet HB);

- alfa-blockers such as doxazosin (Cardura), prazosin (Minipress), Terazosin (Hytrin);
- glyceryl trinitrate, isosorbide mononitrate and isosorbide dinitrate (used for angina or heart failure)
- nicorandil
- amyl nitrate (also known as "poppers")
- medicines such as amprenavir (Agenerase), tipranavir (Aptivus), darunavir (Prezista), efavirenz (Sustiva), nevirapine (Viramune), indinavir (Crixivan), saquinavir (Invirase, Fortovase), lopinavir/ritonavir (Kaletra), fosamprenavir (Lexiva), ritonavir (Norvir), atazanavir (Reyataz), or nelfinavir (Viracept)
- an antifungal medication such as itraconazole (Sporanox) or ketoconazole (Nizoral)
- carbamazepine (Tegretol), phenobarbital (Luminal), or phenytoin (Dilantin)
- rifampin (Rifadin, Rimactane) or rifabutin (Mycobutin).
