WFP Welcomes Expeditious Movement Of Food Aid In Sudan
05/07/07
The United Nations World Food Programme welcomed the Government
of Sudan's expediting the movement of a shipment of 100,000 tons of
cereals
that had been delayed at Port Sudan. There had been a temporary hold on
the release, which sometimes happens in order for the fitness of the
commodities to be confirmed.
The matter has been resolved to the satisfaction of all parties concerned
and the food released for delivery to the beneficiaries.
"WFP expresses its appreciation to the Government of Sudan for its
constructive handling of the matter," said Kenro Oshidari, WFP
Representative in Sudan.
WFP is the world's largest humanitarian agency: each year, we give food to
an average of 90 million poor people to meet their nutritional needs,
including 58 million hungry children, in at least 80 of the world's
poorest
countries. WFP -- We Feed People.
