Drug name: Iodomarin

Active Ingredients: iodine, potassium iodide

Therapeutic actions: Iodomarin is a iodine preparation made for treatment and prevention of the thyroid gland disease. Iodine is a vitally important microelement, which is necessary for normal work of the thyroid gland. Taking iodine in physiological quantities prevents the development of endemic goiter. Iodine normalizes the size of the thyroid gland in newborns, children and adolescents, and also effects the ratio of T3/T4 relationship, and the level of theryotropic hormones. The application of iodomarin compensates for the deficiency of iodine in the organism, which is especially important to children, adolescents, and during pregnancy or lactation period.

Indications:

  • Profilaxis of disease which are related with the deficiency of iodine( above all in children, adolescents, during pregnancy and lactation period).
  • Treatment of diffusive nontoxic goiter.
  • Treatment of diffusive euthyroid goiter, which was caused by iodine deficiency, in children, adolescents and adults.

Contraindications and cautions:

  • Hypertereosis
  • Toxic adenoma of thyroid gland, nodular goiter (if using in doses from 300 to 100mkg/day), excluding the period of preoperational iodine therapy.
  • Herpetiphormic Durings Dermatitis.
  • Hypersensitivity to iodine.

Adverse effects: The following are some of the side effects that are known to be associated with this medicine. Because a side effect is stated here, it does not mean that all people using this medicine will experience that or any side effect.
Endocrine system: Using Iodomarine in doses higher then 150 mkg/day latent hyperthyroidism can transform into its clinical from; Using Iodomarine in doses from 300-100 mkg/day, can cause iodine induced hyperthyrosis ( particularly in middle aged with a long history of goiter, in the presence of diffusive toxic and nodular goiter.)
allergic reactions: Iodism, metallic aftertaste, oedema, inflammation of mucous tunic, Iodine induced rhinitis, conjunctivitis, bronchitis, iodine induced fever, acne. In rare occasions Quinke oedema, exfoliative dermatitis.
During profilaxis with iodomarine in patients with various age no side effects were registered.

Using Iodomarine with potassium-sparing diuretics can cause hyperpotassemia. Simultaneous use of Iodamarine with Li preparations can cause goiter development and hypothyroidism.
