Therapeutic actions:
The commercial name of the medication may differ from the brand one. Generic Vaniqa manufactured by Ajanta is available under commercial name Elyn.
The exact action mechanism of the medication is not known. It is considered that the medication works by inhibiting the enzyme called ornithine decarboxylase. This enzyme is responsible for the biosynthesis of polyamines which probably regulate hair growth. By inhibiting ornithine decarboxylase Vaniqa helps to stop facial hair growth.
Indications:
Vaniqa is indicated in the complex treatment of unwanted facial hair growth in women (following depilation).
Contraindications and cautions:
Vaniqa should not be taken if any of the following conditions apply to you:
- History of sensitivity to any of the medication ingredients
- Severe kidney diseases (renal failure)
- Make sure to inform your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding
- The medication should not be applied on the area under the chin. The medication is intended only for external use only.
- Stop taking the medication if allergic reactions occur.
Adverse effects: There are possible side effects associated with this medicine that can affect individuals in different ways.
