Drug name: Kreon
Therapeutic actions: Kreon belongs to enzymatic agents. It contains a mixture of the natural enzymes that help to improve the processes of digestion. Pancreatic enzyme supplements(lipase, protease, amylase) improve protein, lipids and carbohydrates breakdown, leading to their full absorption in the intestine. Pancreatic enzymes are used by patients whose digestive glands are not able to produce enough enzymes to digest food.
Indications:
Kreon is used as replacement therapy in insufficient activity of pancreatic gland in the following conditions:
- Mucoviscidosis
- Chronic pancreatitis
- Pancreatectomy
- Pancreatic cancer
- Ductal obstruction caused by newgrowth
- Schwachman syndrome
- Elderly age
As symptomatic treatment in the following conditions:
- Condition after cholecystectomy
- Limited stomach resection
- Total gastrectomy
- Duodeno- and gastrostasis
- Biliary obstruction
- Cholangiolitic hepatitis
- Liver cirrhosis
- Excessive bacterial growth in the intestine
Contraindications and cautions:
Creon should not be taken in the following conditions:
- Increased individual hypersensitivity
- Acute pancreatitis
- Aggravation of chronic pancreatitis
- Creon should be used only after the consultation with your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
Adverse effects: There are possible side-effects associated with this medicine that can affect individuals in different ways. If a side effect is stated here, that does not necessarily mean the fact that all people using Kreon will experience it or any other.
In rare cases skin allergic reactions, diarrhea, constipation, nausea, stomach pain are possible.
