Vitamin name: Vitamin C
Active Ingredients: Ascorbic Acid
Type: water-soluble vitamin

Therapeutic actions: Ascorbic acid (Vitamin C) has recovery properties because it plays a vital role in the regulation of the oxidation-reduction processes, carbohydrate metabolism, clotting of the blood, regeneration of the tissues, formation of hormones, and normalization of the capillary permeability. Ascorbic acid used in cases of vitamin deficiency.

Indications: Vitamin C is used for prevention and treatment in every circumstance when-the human body requires additional administration of this vitamin for prevention and treatment of scurvy, for hemorrhagic diathesis, nasal bleeding, pulmonary hemorrhage, liver hemorrhage, uterine bleeding, and other bleeding conditions, including those caused by radiation sickness and over-dosage of anticoagulants, infectious sicknesses and poisoning, liver diseases, kidney diseases in pregnant women, Addison sickness, slowly healing wounds and bone fractures, dystrophy and other ailments. The preparation is also prescribed for periods for physical and mental stress, pregnancy and nursing.

Adverse effects:
1. Vitamin C causes diarrhea in everyone if taken in quantities beyond a limit which is variable to the individual. Cathcart[4] has called this limit the Bowel Tolerance Limit and observed that it is higher in people with serious illness than those in good health. It ranges from 5 to 25 grams per day in healthy individuals to 300 grams per day in the seriously ill persons, such as those with AIDS and cancer. The diarrhea side-effect is harmless though it can be inconvenient. The diarrhea will cease as soon as the dose is reduced.
2. Large doses of vitamin C may cause acid indigestion (stomach upset), particularly when taken on an empty stomach. This unpleasant but harmless side-effect can be avoided by taking the vitamin along with meals, or by offsetting its acidity by taking an antacid such as baking soda.
3. Overdose in vitamin C can cause nosebleed for some people.

Recommended dosage: For preventive purposes ascorbic acid is prescribed to adults 0.05 to 0.1 grams daily and for children 0.025 to 0.05 grams 3 times daily. Patients with thick blood with a tendency of blockage, inflammation of the veins associated with blood clots and blockages, susceptibility to blockages of the veins and arteries, or suffering from diabetes should avoid high dosages.

Contraindications and cautions: No contradictions. When used in prescribed doses.

Interactions: Tell your doctor or pharmacist what medicines you are already taking, including those bought without a prescription and herbal medicines, before you start taking ascorbic acid.

Additional Information: DO NOT SHARE THIS MEDICINE with others. DO NOT USE THIS MEDICINE for other health conditions. KEEP THIS PRODUCT, as well as syringes and needles, if needed during treatment, out of the reach of children. Do not reuse needles, syringes, or other materials.
