Therapeutic actions:
Evista is a selective estrogen receptor modulator (SERMs). Evista possesses both anti-estrogen (breast) and estrogen (bones) effects. It is considered that breast tumor grow with aid of estrogen. By exerting anti-estrogen action on breast Evista helps to prevent or lower the risk of breast cancer. Evista also lowers the process of resorbtion of bone tissue and normalizes the balance of calcium in the organism via decreasing loss of calcium with urine. Evista does not cause endomethrium proliferation, increase of uterine size, bloody discharges and bleedings in postclimacteric period. Evista lowers the levels of general cholesterol and LDL. Evista does not cause HDL and triglycerides blood levels, decreases the amount of fibrinogen in the blood.
Indications: Evista is approved as prophylactic remedy in women in postmenopause.
Contraindications and cautions:
Evista should not be taken in the following conditions:
- Thromboembolia
- Thrombosis of the deep veins
- Embolia of the lung artery and thrombosis of the retina's veins
- Liver diseases
- Severe kidney diseases
- Uterine bleedings of unknown origin
- Breast cancer
- Endomethrium cancer
- Hypersensitivity to raloxifene or other ingredients of the medication

The most common Evista side effects include: hot flashes, joint pain, flu-like symptoms, water retention, muscle spasms, sinus infections, headache, weight gain, muscle pain, sweating and pneumonia.
The less common Evista side effects include: thrombocytopenia, venous thromboembolia, embolia of the lung artery, thrombosis of the retina's veins, vasodilation, peripheral edema, spasms of gastrocnemius muscle.
