Active Ingredients: Risedronate sodiumTherapeutic actions:
Actonel is an inhibitor of bone resorption which belongs to a group of medicines called biphosphonates. Action mechanism of the medication is associated with binding with xydroxylapatite and inhibits the function of osteoclasts. Actonel also lowers bone resorption. Maximal therapeutic effect occurs in 3 month, the duration of therapeutic action is 16 month.Indications: Actonel is indicated in the following conditions:
- Osteoporosis in postmenopausal women
- Osteoporosis in men
- Osteoporosis which is induced by corticosteroids
- Paget's disease both in women and men
Contraindications and cautions:
Actonel should not be taken in the following conditions:- Kidney failure (decreased creatine clearance less than 30ml/min)
- Low calcium blood levels
- Children and adolescents under 18 years of age
- Inability to sit upright or stand for 30 minutes
- Esophagus diseases
- Make sure to inform your health care provider if you are planning any dental interventions
Adverse effects: There are possible side effects associated with this medicine that can affect individuals in different ways. If a side effect is stated here, that does not necessarily mean the fact that all people using Actonel will experience it or any other.
- Digestive system: stomach pain, dysphagia, belching, esophagitis, duodenitis, esophagus and stomach ulcer, colitis, diarrhea, constipation, nausea.
- Central nervous system: headache, dizziness, asthenia, tiredness, seizures, myasthenia.
- Sense organs: iritis, dryness of the mucous lining, tinnitus.
- Allergic reactions: akin rash.
- Other: bone pain, arthralgia, bronchitis, sinusitis, chest pain, peripheral edema, low calcium blood levels.
