Active Ingredients:
- estradiol valerate and dienogest
Therapeutic actions: Klimodien is anti-climacteric, estrogenic, gestagenic and anti androgenic medication. Klimodien contains two hormones estradiol and gestagen(dienogest). The levels of these hormones are decreased during climacteric period(menopause). Thereby, Klimodien replaces the hormones that are not properly produced during menopause.
Estradiol prevents or relieves painful symptoms(climacteric complains), including hot flash, sweatiness, insomnia, nervousness, hyper irritability, dizziness, headache,involuntary urination, dryness and irritation in the vagina, painful sexual intercourse.
Gestagen(dienogest) prevents the endometrium thickening and leads to reducing of menstruation-like hemorrhage. Dienogest possesses anti androgenic properties as well.
Klimodien lower cholesterol levels and thus prevents the developing of cardiovascular diseases.
Indications: Klimodien is used in hormonal replacement therapy for the treatment of climacteric symptoms in women, who experienced the last menstrual bleeding the year before that.
Klimodien is not indicated to prevent pregnancy, it is not a contraceptive medication.
Contraindications and cautions: Do not use Klimodien if you have any of the following conditions:
- Pregnancy and breastfeeding
- Vaginal bleeding caused by unknown origin
- Breast cancer
- Hormonal depending neoplasms(new growth)
- Liver cancer
- Liver diseases
- Deep venous thrombosis
- Pulmonary embolism
- Increased blood level of triglycerides
- Allergy to any of the medication active ingredients
You should make the comprehensive clinical examination before beginning the treatment with this medicine.
Adverse effects: There are possible side-effects associated with this medicine that can affect individuals in different ways. If a side effect is stated here, that does not necessarily mean the fact that all people using Klimodien will experience it or any other.
Immediately stop taking Klimodien and consult with you doctor if you experienced:
- Migraine attack(first in your life)
- Aggravation of migraine
- Sudden hear and vision disorders
- Inflammation of the veins(phlebitis)
- Cough with blood
- Unexpected pain in hands, or edema of the hands and legs
- Sudden gasping
- Faintness
During first months of treatment vaginal bleedings, pain in the mammary gland and headache are possible. Clinical trials also showed the following side effects:
- Reproductive system and mammary gland: endometrium thickening, pain in the mammary gland, vulvovaginitis
- CNS: headache, migraine, dizziness, tiredness, decreased mood, nervousness, insomnia
- Cardiovascular system: hypertension, thrombophlebitis, venous thrombosis, hypotension
- Digestive system: dyspepsia, meteorism, nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, constipation, gastritis(in rare cases)
- Skin and hypoderm: sweatiness, eczema, dermatitis, alopecia(hair loss)

- Do not use Klimodien in combination with hormonal birth control pills.
- Drugs used to treat epilepsy or tuberculosis, some antibiotics may reduce the efficiency of Klimodien
- If you are suffering from diabetes, your doctor should reduce the dosage of anti diabetic medication for you.
- Alcoholic beverages may affect the efficiency of Klimodien
- Hormonal replacement therapy may change the results of some laboratory tests.
